This black female celebrity is known throughout the world, she's a veteran in the industry. What few people know: She was a underage prostitute before her big break. She used to turn tricks for spending cash. A few older male visitors to her single family home, often groped or kissed her when her parent wasn't looking.
Her pimp fathered one of her kids. A second kid is hidden away because of a devastating family secret, this kid allegedly has a mental disability.
Despite some degree of success when she first started out, she still married her mack daddy/drug dealer.
After too many beatings, she divorced him and married another man (in the industry). She would later find out he was DL. He was hiring male escorts with her money when she was out of town on business. They divorced.
She got involved with someone in the industry, she was appalled when she found out he was creeping with one of her female relatives. She fell out with the relative but stayed with the man until he left her.

I think this is Aretha. My mother and I went to a gospel concert Aretha was holding for Hurricane Katrina victims and her son was there. That boy was seriously off. If this is the son the blind item is referring to, you can tell he has a mental illness as soon as you meet him. It was rumored that when Aretha's house mysteriously caught on fire while she was in Europe, it was him who did it. He got arrested a while back for stealing a bike and ReRe bailed him out.

I'm jumping on the ReeRee the Body bandwagon as well. Her mother died at a young age so def a single parent household. She had her first child at 14, so that fits. Glynn Turman was/is DL from what I've heard, so that fits. And several insiders on this board have mentioned the fact that the Wilkerson dude won't sign a prenup. Definitely thinking it's Aretha.

Disturbing the peace huh? You can take the girl outta 'da hood, but you can't take the hood outta 'da girl! I saw a documentary about her and the musicians spoke about the fights between she and Ted and the tension (and her pain) during those sessions would yield classic hits.
But I'm not mad, she can mix it up in all circles, despite the fashion disasters and attitude. This is a woman who has sung w/Pavoratti and is an exceptional pianist.

O/T Anita Baker is a mess. A few weeks ago, she was in Nigeria and showed out. She refused to participate in the press junket before a show, and then a few hour before her performance (after she did a complete sound check) she said she didn't play in anywhere but amphitheaters. Why was she surprised when the company that contracted her, put her out of her hotel the next morning? Even the comedian that hosted the show, was saying that she's lucky that Nigerians felt pity on her and offered her non working azz a job.

Ok,Heres the real deal on nasty anita. She has a real shitty attitude. She lives here in Grosse Pointe like i do. She has a VERY nasty attitude and loves white people. We saw her one day speaking and smiling with some white woman in long fur coats. When a black lady and her daughter approached her to say hello she stared her up and down told her to have a good day and crossed the street to avoid talking to the black lady. That poor lady started crying. Anita was at our Macy's here one time and was mad when she asked for and was denied a discount. See the Pointes are divided into 5 citites....Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Park, Grosse Pointe Shores, and Grosse Pointe Woods. She is frowned upon in all 5 because of her attitude. Her boys attend the local high school with my child and she came in on registration day that morning looking a hot f'ing mess. Expecting to cut to the front of the line cause she had things to do later on.....well didnt we all. Long story short she had to wait like everyone else. The lady at the desk said she'd be glad when the boys graduated because dealing with Anita was pure hell. sorry for rambling on, but if you want I have more stories on Anita. Like I said we live in the same city.

Ms. Baker is NOT a fan of standing in any line. That is a well known fact around here also. She was in the local Borders bookstore here and eventually got pissed because no one approached her. I mean really alot of teens hang out there and study in the cafe part. Hell most of those kids dont even know who she is. Anita performed a concert in Detroit years ago...what was wrong with that you ask....she sang one song and said to the audience Goodnight Everybody....We thought she was kidding...no she wasnt. We were all pissed to say the least. Remember the home she took a picture spread in Ebony Magazine. It was in the new subdivision and it was named Baker Lane. Well after not selling records for a long time and getting sued by Babyface....she dramatically downsized! The neighbors were glad to see her go.

You know, you'd think that someone "two apples high" would be a bit more humble. I remember when she had a miscarriage on the heels of her 1988 album and how my heart went out for her, despite the stories I'd heard of concerning her nasty behavior. She truly is a defective diva and needs to get a grip. I guess the sun shines for she and she alone. As for being rude in another country, she'd better calm down, how disrespectful. Let her go somewhere else clowning and behaving as if she's royalty and find herself in a situation reminiscent of Laurence of Arabia.

I think we all felt bad for her when she had that first miscarriage and cheered for her when she finally had a healthy baby. The good part is her sons are really nice young men. She treated her husband Walter horribly in public. They're no longer together....as if we didn't know why. She was overhead telling her husband Walter that he was even "lucky" to even be married to him. Not that you should be rude to anyone, but you really cant afford to act like a major beeyotch when you havent had a hit album or song in years.

My daughter lurks on this site and her words for Miss Baker was these: "How can Anita be acting like she has high class standards on a food stamp budget and why is she at Macy's shopping, shouldn't she be shopping at an exclusive boutiques, buying clothes from cole haan, M. Exclusive boutiques are too much for that budget and with her attitude she'd be tossed out the stores like they used to do brainy smurf or jazz on the fresh prince. Now regarding the school...The Grosse Pointe North & South High schools are both very high up on schools that have very high score and college grad rates. If your diploma says you graduated from those two doors will open.So she is making a good decision there at least. There are two private schools Grosse Pointe Academy & University Liggett. VERY VERY expensive and the scores of the two public high schools are still higher. She doesnt get asked anymore to do local events here in the pointes or detroit hardly because of her siddity demands and high fees.

Im old school and when I thought about it, brainy smurf flying was the first image I thought of! LOL. Im cracking up just thinking about it! The school they attend is not an academy, its just one of the two public high schools here in the pointes that is ranked very high. Grosse Pointe Academy & University Liggett are the two private schools. But still her choice to send them to school here is a very good one. Now if we could manage to get her to get rid of that same black dress she's been rocking that'd be great, but I guess since she cant get a discount anywhere it aint gonna happen! someone in a post further down mentioned it!

Thank you all for the comments. Lavender you are right...she is not what she seems at all. I know several people whom are adopted and while that may play a part in her nastiness, I just think that the fame went to her head. Now when shes out and about in the city she's by herself. People joke that they're surprised she hasnt hired bodyguards because she thinks shes so important. For someone who claims to be so hands on in her boys life guess who didnt show up to back to school night....you guessed it. It only lasted 2.5 hours. SMH. Thats when you go and meet who'll be instructing your child/ren that year.

I also heard from a older friend of mine that back in the day, the reason why she had a long hiatus after Songstress because she supposed caught a case for involuntary manslaughter involving a first husband...something about he was abusive and she got off on the battered wife syndrome or something. Don't know how true it is, but she told me that twice...and even she had an unpleasant encounter with her...don't know the details, but its pretty much the same ole song that's being sang...kinda like that same ole black dress she KEEPS rocking'. Such a shame for her to clown like that.

I love this board and I love this family atmosphere here on PR, but this will be the last time I post here. Darling, Angie fits the sugar mama part, that's about it. She's not known around the world, she's only known as a mark for younger men. I even heard she endorsed a industry check over to a man 15 years younger and we won't talk about the cooking and shelter she gives to younger men. OK so this lady has been married twice, has 2 kids but the public only knows about one child and was raised in single family home.
Could this be Natalie? Single parent home- Maria after Nat died. 1 kid we know about, Robbie. 2 marriages, 1st marriage to Marvin or later died drug related death. 2nd husband beat the crap out of her and was in the industry in Rufus- not sure if DL but known to be abusive.

Yep, the weight was the big topic in the 70s and she was on it real bad. Don't know about now, but the grown folks were saying that they could tell she wasn't doing drugs that hard becasue she had some weight on her. Yep. My mom always talks about Aretha's heavy drug use in the seventies. Smokey Robinson was another one who almost had his life destroyed from drug abuse. He luckily recovered around the 1980's, but my mom claimed she heard Smokey did some time in jail for some reason. DOn't know how true that is.

I'm saying! Folks to this very day still praise CL's preaching. And the gospel radio stations and gospel morning shows (on R&B stations) still feature his sermons. Now a much as I like and respect Sam Cooke, I was always suspect of a possible encounter between them. I've heard her say that she had a crush on him and I knew that she was fast as a teenager. You are right in that Kim is surely no punk. I don't know if Faith stated in her book Kim drove off after eyeing her but there was an altercation with name calling, etc there that night which neither one of them backed down as security was the one breaking up the craziness. A lot of people from the New York Harlem community on 125th Street watched to see the brawl. I think this was the taping or something which Kim performed. It was a long time ago and brings up a lot of old teenage memories.

and if the relative was her sister she ramained close to both of them. but she did have it bad for dennis.as far as her son,he's mentally ill.was a patient at my hospital(b4 i became an employee) and staff said when she came to visit,she never came to the unit.they used to bring him to her in another part of the hospital( i believe this is the son who burned the house down).her neighbors were going to take her to court because she refused to clean up the debris from the house or tear it down after the fire(they embarassed her to do something with it) also, when her father was preaching they used to look the doors of the sanctuary when the collection plate was passed. if he didn't collect what he thought should be collected,he'd berate the members until he got what he wanted. after dad died her drug addicted brother was the preacher for awhile but now they have someone else (nice guy whenever he runs into my family he has a loooong talk with my mother,especially about HER crazy cousins,he didn't even laugh when during a funeral for my cousins, the grandchildren refused to ride in the family car when they went to pick them up.so the funeral was held up until they arrived.in the meantime the rest of the family me included was trying to call the house on cellphones to see where they were.they finally arrived after walking to the church through the alley,b4 going to the church they had to go to the liquor store(had to have something 4 theride to the cemetery).sorry got off track,but i don't think this is aretha but i could be wrong.usually i am

I have an older cousin that as a teenager worked in the city youth employment programs and some of their assignments were cleaning area churches. She said the first time she ever saw a brick of marijuana was at CL Franklin's church when they were cleaning it, but I didn't believe it.(thought she had to be embellishing the truth I mean we are talking about in a church) Now hearing what you guys are saying about him being known for smoking weed. You'll be surprised at what you can find in a "religious" institution. After all, we're only human. I've learned this, there are bad folks in EVERY arena. Yesterday I watched the news as a principal was caught on dash cam (police) fleeing while dropping syringes and dope out the window. I mean, can you imagine? Does he do his thing and then come to work? How many sick people have used their positions to take advantage of others (some in the name of Jesus)?

Let me break it down, Aunt Ree left the house, realized she forgot something, caught Glen in bed with her gay son. Someone dropped a dime on her dad with the IRS, they were investigating him when he died. Her brother Cecil loved drugs and might have died of a drug induced heart attack like Natlaie's first husband Marvin Yancy. Aretha tried to seduce Sam Cooke, was sitting on his bed about to make her move and her father came looking for her and the staple singers tried to stall him outside from going in. I think Aretha hid when CL finally got in but nothing happened. Dennis Edwards had her sprung, she wanted to do a duet with him when she was hot and agreed to give him all the money from the song if he started dating her again, Dennis turned down the deal. I've watched the BBC's Soul Deep series about the history of soul music and when they talked about Sam Cooke, all the lady singers, Aretha, Candi Staton, Mavis Staples spoke about how handsome he was, so I'm not surprised Aretha tried to seduce him. Aretha is messy, she tried to clown Toni Braxton when she was broke. ET interviewed Aretha about not paying her bills and she said, my name's not Toni Braxton, you have the wrong person. I've always heard Aretha hates paying her bills, her property is unkept, she hates to fly and is always on tour buses. I've always heard she has so many issues and is real diva like because MTV had a big problem with her not long ago.

Hi Dear! You're welcome. It broke my heart when I heard about Ohio losing all that money. $80MIL???!!! That's ridiculous. So many people are out of work in Ohio. One of the main industries for this state was automobiles/SUV's. Lot of dealers won't take trade in for SUV's because they can't move them. I said that to say all this, this state is in trouble! Four (4) cities out of Ohio were listed in the top 10 of dying cities in the U.S. Why is it there isn't more information to people that this money is sitting there available? It just sickens me. So so many people out of work. They are running a commercial on the radio now for Issue 6 which has to do with the building of Casino's here in Ohio. I so wish that this issue passes and we are able to break ground on a casino. So many people that I know are taking their money elsewhere to gamble. I know that many people are against it, but honestly, I think that it would help. More people wouldn't be going to WV/PA or even Michigan (Hey Trinity shout-out to the D) to spend their money. On top of losing the 80 Mil, I honestly feel like I may have to up root my family, and move all depending on how this election goes in November. *sigh*

1. Nas & Kelis marriage-he called him a sucka for love (he was p*ssy whipped from her freaky nature)
2. What he said about TI. His attorneys told him the best deal they coul dhave gotten him was 10 years and he has some of the best attorneys that money can buy.

Look what I found on PR about Aretha & Dennis:
Tony Turner reveals the following in his book, "Deliver Us From Temptation."
David Ruffin, Eddie Kendricks and Dennis Edwards were scheduled to perform at a big by-invitation-only party at the Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin's mansion in a Detroit suburb.
Aretha had personally requested that Dennis Edwards, her one-time live-in lover sing one of her favorite songs at the event, "A Song For You," but Edwards politely declined because Dennis had made a vow to a long term ongoing love interest of his never to sing "A Song For You," specifically for anyone else but her.
Just getting to the party proved to be an event in itself. As usual, David Ruffin missed three or four planes. I had to keep rebooking his flight arrangements throughout the day.
Finally, David finally arrived and we got into a limo that took us to Aretha's estate. On the way over, Eddie Kendricks looked like he was silently reminiscing. At his peak, he had lived in this neighborhood but he had to give the house and practically everything he owned to his ex-wife Pat in the divorce settlement.
The house was filled with thousands of dollars worth of fresh flowers. The white walls were covered with gold and platinum records spanning Aretha's whole career. It took me back to the time Mary Wilson moved homes for a day when she was invited to appear on one of the Rich & Famous shows. She took all her photographs and gold records off the walls, moved them over to a friend's mansion, parked her old Rolls-Royce with the Supremes license plate and pretended that this was her house so that nobody would know she was actually washed up and lived cooped up with her family in a tiny, two-bedroom bungalow.
But Mary's production paled in comparsion to Aretha because this was actually Aretha's home.
Strategically placed among all the photographs on the walls were several large framed pictures of Dennis and Aretha. It was like a shrine to Dennis.
"Me and Aretha could have made it." Dennis once told me. "But when you get Aretha, you get the Queen's staff and guards." He added, that he was worried that Aretha might be seeking to rekindle their romance. Dennis was in a marriage that didn't appear to be a match made in heaven, plus his career was definitely in need of the kind of shot in the arm Aretha could give it.
Suddenly, Aretha's personal manager arrived and told me "there's a man calling for you in the hallway, he's buck naked, he's soaking wet and he's screaming for you to get him a razor." Looking down the corridor, I saw that it was David Ruffin, my godfather.
Eddie suddenly informed me, he wanted to perform for Aretha, get paid and get out.
Aretha suddenly shows up with her boyfriend and asked Dennis again-to sing "A Song For You." As soon as Aretha's boyfriend turned his back, Dennis whispered, "Aretha, how can you ask me to sing "A Song For You," with your boyfriend standing right there? She said, "Honey, this is my house. I left so they could speak.
The next morning, as I sat eating breakfast with Eddie, in walked Dennis Edwards followed by Aretha wearing a fabulous mink coat. She nodded her head regally, and said, "Y'all be sure to come up to the house for brunch," and left.
The second Dennis sat down Eddie and I both asked him, "What in the world has happened now?" Dennis claimed that Erma told him that Aretha still loved him and wanted to get back with him.
Later, Aretha came in saying she wanted Dennis to ride back to the house with her and spend the weekend, he asked, "What about your man?" "Honey, she said, what about him? He knows I came up here to see my man."
Dennis just told her, "Now Aretha, I'm not with all that." To this day, he insists nothing further happened between them that night.

Whoo, the stories I heard growing up because they would have gospel shows all the time across from where my great aunt use to live and she stated that all the gospel greats use to come through there. I was cracking jokes after seeing her being honored on one of those awards shows and all her boobs were spilling out of her gown. My aunt gave me a look that still sends chills down my spine! This is my 1st time commenting here and all I can say is WOW! About all this stuff i am reading about Aretha. I remember my Grandmother telling me about Aretha's father saying he was "something else chile" ..lol. After reading all of this, i guess that joker was. And why didn't Aretha ever bring charges on Glynn? Cuz that joker still is working...just won an Emmy the other day! I am hooked on this site, i love the old school tidbits and the stories about the crime bosses back in the day.

I can tell you that I do not like this whole thing at all. The bailout is just another agenda tool to push the one world order agenda. I used to work for Bank of America and we had a major awards ceremony for our North Florida office and when we got down to asking questions it got ugly. One of the questions asked was why cant we be more forgiving with the overdraft fees and the head man from N.C. said without blinking because we are in the business of making money and we will be the largest bank. We cant be the largest being nice. I just see everything I have ever read about certain underground orginizations slowly trying to roll forward. If they have their way the Amero will be in place and Canada and Mexico will be a part of the U.S. and there will be one bank and one world everything. Like my wife showed me online and on T.V. Bush is pushing all of this right before he gets out of office because he needs that control. I mean starting now or next year it will be mandatiory for them to take vial of your newborns blood and store it who knows where.

I just had this discussion with my mom last night! This is so crazy.She just found out all her debt (2 mortgages, credit cards, etc.) will be owned by two of the major banks, since they're buying everything up. This is capitalism at it's worst because the means of production, wealth and power are in the hands of even fewer people. They are monopolizing entire industries and will be able to overcharge the common folk for everything because there are no competitors. This bailout is an underhanded way to screw taxpayers royally without giving any relief for the individuals who are struggling.
I should smack myself for reading Ann Coulter yesterday, but sometimes I need to read what the other side (read dark side) has to say. She is basically blaming the housing crisis on "affirmative Action" from the Clinton years and the title of the article is something like The Minorities got your Mortgage? I know that there are people who irresponsibly took on mortgages they knew they could not afford, but there are also people who were fine until they lost their jobs or other forms of income. This bailout will not help them. I forget who else I was reading but there was an article stating that the $700 Billion + should be given in $7,500 vouchers to homeowners so they can pay their mortgages and clear up some of the bad debt. This would be more of a trickle up, rather than trickle down approach and I'm not sure it'd work, but I don't support what they're trying to do now. This seems so shady and we won't know the full effects until after the Bushwacker gets out of the White House. I think he's scared Obama will win and wants to have this mess blow up during Obama's run so folks can blame him! This staged "break" in the campaign by McCain and Bush inviting Obama to the WH wreaks to me. They are setting him up for the Okey Doke. SMDH

Lit, let me tell you...that beyotch was talking about how minorities were able to use their welfare checks and food stamps to get mortgages. My head was aching as I read! I only read that kind of bullish to know what the "others" are thinking when they hear what is going on in this country. It makes no sense to me to blindly follow the government, no matter who is leading, but to support an administration that has led us into the depths of hell is mind-numbing. My hubby is in financial services and insurance. One of our neighbors came to him because he no longers have homeowners insurance. So my hubby gave him a quote. In the process, he told my hubby that he owned a home in Louisiana that was destroyed by Ike. He didn't even have insurance on the home. Now he owes the gov't for cleaning up the rubbish. Now for the home he owns here, he signed an adjustable loan. It startyed out at 7% now it's 10%. He has no insurance and he just bought a 2008 Chrysler Aspen. My hubby an dI are confused because he can barely make the car note but he bought a new car. He can't refinance. His loan officer told him the best thing for him to do is be late on his payments so he can get a new loan. This will mess up his credit. So dizzy over this entire scenerio. SO many of my neighbors lost homes here. They fell for that negative ammoritization loans and adjustable rates. We got a fixed because you never know how the market will turn out. Now look where we are.

When I bought my house in 2004 I has a real estate agent that was constantly trying to get me to look at houses at the top of my price range, the mortgage companies were throwing all these mortgage options around that would let me get a house that was clearly out of my price range. Luckily for me, common sense prevailed. I was looking at how much I take home and the math just didn't make sense. yeah I could swing it, I guess, but that house better not need any repairs or furniture or utilities, etc or I'd be scraping to get by. I'm sure too many people saw what they could GET vs what the could AFFORD and lost their minds. Its only human therefore I put 80% of the blame on the banks, mortgage companies and realtors. I had to fire her and find someone else. The temptation was really hard because I was being offered some fabulous properties but I had to do what I felt was right in my gut and I'm glad I did. This 700B bailout really gets me heated. I don't think that is the answer. Do they really think the banks are going to change if they are bailed out? Hell no! They need to do what everyone else who gets into a financial bind do and get a second job. Take a pay cut, put thier ass on a budget, find another source of revenue, work some damn overtime...bailout my ass. Somebody needs to be behind bars. They need to take at least half that money and bail out Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blow. Why not give americans a voucher for investment purposes only. That way they can help the banks and the citizen at the same time. Whatever happened to the phrase "by the people for the people."

My friend from high school "slept w/her sister's cousin on her daddy's side" (her words, not mine). Her oldest child is by him - the neighborhood dude that has at least 12 kids since graduating HS 15 yrs ago. Trife! And my sister's ex-man once slept with one of his first cousins - and was not AFRAID to admit it.

You are on point Lavender. It does seems like it is the small rural southern towns that have these issues. I mentioned in an older thread that I have brothers and sisters who are double kin (first cousins & brothers and sisters) We all share the same father, but not the same mother. Most of my siblings are from my step-mom's & her sisters. My step-mom raised me and my brother from the time we were small (under two) as a matter of fact, she was only 17 when she hooked up with my father, he was 29. So not only was he a sadistic child abuser, I will add pedophile to his wonderful attributes. I refer to my step-mom as mom, because she was the only mother figure besides my grandmother (his) mother I had. I also mentioned my father not only had fathered children with these three sisters, but slept with their mother as well. Oh, did I forget too mention he also tried to sleep with their other sisters. It was humiliating. He slept around so much there is know telling how many brothers and sisters I really have.

Hi Lavender, with God's mercy I have been able to somewhat lead a normal life. Occasionally, I have my moments. My dad should have been allowed away for years or life imo. His carnal sins are too numerous and it would take a years to tell all of it. This is the part I don't understand. Why would you abandon your children knowing that you are leaving them at the mercy of a sick perverted monster? My biological mother told me when I was an infant she had made me a fresh bottle. She couldn't understand why I wouldn't drink it. She tasted the milk thinking the milk may have been sour but nooo this fool had loaded with salt or when she told me she heard me crying, and went to investigate she saw his ass running away and seen where he had left his fingernails print dug deep in my thigh smdh. That's one of the reasons why I have never forgiven her. Like Aretha's mom, she knew that man was evil and you still entrusted the care of your children to someone like that. Unforgivable. I only converse with her by phone and haven't seen her in at least 14 years. Also, that's what I said about C.L. Franklin, he probably didn't stop with just Aretha. Someone that twisted usually don't. My father certainly didn't, he tried to molest my step-sister. My step mom's daughter and to this very day she hate his guts. That's what's wrong with society today. We need to stop covering up the sins of our father's and perhaps we can heal.

I felt like a lot of the major news networks weren't biased after Bush Jr. was elected the 1st time. And I heard a few different times that Republicans have control over CNN and the like, but don't quote me on that because I don't know for a fact.
Girl, yes! Flint is my home town and I still claim it as home even though I've been in Houston for 8 years. I'm sure that if I don't know your people, I know someone who knows your people. My mom was born there and is the oldest of 12 and all of them raised their kids there and some of their kids raised their kids there. LOL!

My whole issue with Faith is the same issue I have with some and I say some people and Tupac. If you want to write a bigraphy or a tell all you should do it either while the person is alive or right after they die because at this point some 8-10 years later no one is really interested in what you have to say. I mean she made a big deal a couple years after he passed that she was over him and changed her tatoo but felt now that she needs a book deal. When she did the introduction she should have just wrote one line. I am running out of money so this book is to keep food on the table.

Hey Fresh. Uh-oh, you bank with WaMu? It's a mess out there. I'm giving my bank the side eye, too. My banker says things are so stagnant, they aren't making any loans. The only money they're making is from fees (bounced checks and such). People are even defaulting on car loans. She's thinking of jumping ship to work for the state's Department of Revenue before she comes back from lunch one day to find the doors locked! I was like girl, don't tell me that. Right about now, I'm close to liquidating all my assets, building a bomb shelter, stockpiling that mutha with food, water and weapons while waiting for all hell to officially break loose.

I recall that albeit somewhat vaguely. I was young and couldn't grasp the concept of all that back then. But, what I do remember is that McCain and Neil Bush (yes, one of THOSE Bushes) were prominently involved in that mess. Republicans are only good for enriching themselves. When it comes to sharing the wealth, they ain't the ones. Why anybody would vote Republican at this point is beyond me. Their economic policies over the past twenty-something years have been a hot a$$ mess!

I do the same...I like music that speaks to me, regardless of the genre. I love powerful lyrics, but have been known to get carried away by a crazy beat. I write poetry and played two instruments when I was younger, so I truly appreciate wonderful music, no matter who sings it!

Sin, I love some beats myself. Think back a few years to a piece by Kurrupt called "We can Freak It". Did you know that the music tracks were meant for an R&B group, but it was never picked up. It sat for a while, so the rest is history.

I didn't know that Malibu! I never really listened to Kurupt's music...in fact I probably know less about recent Hip Hop than any other genre. I'm not surprised though, because many artists are using R&B and country melodies on hip hop tracks. As far as I'm concerned, good music is good music. I'm the same way with movies...I may prefer Comedies and Dramas, but I love Classics and can wrap my mind around a good Espionage or Sci-Fi film from time to time.

You're a breath of fresh air. I love music's ability to reach the masses, that is, when there's a message in the music. Like you, my taste in music is ecclectic. I'm big on old school soul (O'JAYS, Ohio Players, EWF, just a few) and 80s British music. The Brits dominated and tore it up (Wang Chung, Culture Club, Naked Eyes, The English Beat, ABC, The Police, WHAM!, Erythmics, Peter Gabriel, Go West, and the list goes on). Not sure if you're familiar with the group Style Council, but check them out. My favorites are Everchanging Moods and You're The Best Thing (Style Council) and Promises,Promises (Naked Eyes). Not a British band, but The Talking Heads were some cerebral and brilliant artists.

These practices are not new. I've heard stories of clinics that cater to lower income women sterilizing them without their consent. This especially happens with drug addicts or women who've had STDs, they can get away with it by saying the woman is sterile because of her lifestyle. Folks are getting really devious with things because they are terrified of losing power once they are "officially" the minorities in this country.

There was a movement in the 50's called Eugenics (sp?). It was basically steralizing drug addicts so they wouldn't have "addicted children", therefore curbing the durg problem. Some were given a choice for it, but others were steralized against their will. Women who were committed to "mental institutions" for various "problems" (this was the 50's after all)were told they would not be released from the hospital unless they agreed to steralization. I love this site btw.

Welcome Addy! I am too lazy to type about Eugenics, but it's serious business! I know people personally who were sterilized due to mental health "issues" against their will. The powers that be will prey on anyone who is in need of money or has impaired judgment due to mental health issues and/or substance abuse. The unethical experimentation on minorities did not begin nor end with the Tuskegee experiment. Why do you think most of the new birth control methods (Norplant, Ortho Evra, Depo) are tried out on us first in clinics. Most Medicaid recipients were pushed to use Norplant in the 90's and had serious complications from them. Now they want to push girls as young as 9 to get the Gardisil vaccine claiming it's for cervical cancer. They're not even fully informing the parents that it's an HPV vaccine and it does not prevent all strains, nor does it guarantee your child won't get cervical cancer. Some girls have died from the vaccine, but it's hushed up because it's mainly minority girls that they're using as guinea pigs.

I went to a planned parenthood clinic when I was in college to get treated for a yeast infection (poor diet). They diagnosed me with syphillis, even though i was still a virgin, and said I most likely got it from sitting on a toilet seat. I wanted to get rid of the discharge so I took the pills. They also prescribed me Ortho Evra, when if first came out, since I have always had a 7 day period and heavy cramping...the clinic told me this would reduce the cramps and period duration. I truly wanted this, because, in some months, going through my cycle was debilitation.
I tried and tried, but those BC bills kept making me sick, like my body was rejecting them. My head and stomach were spinning. I took them on and off for 3 months, then I tried taking them everyday for 2 weeks since I wasn't supposed to skip days. I started feeling like my insides wanted to jump out.
When I finally got health insurance 5 years later, again, the OBG/GYN at a local practice wanted to put me on some BC pills. Again, I wasn't really 'active'. Why do they push so hard to get women on those things, even when you tell them, "I'm not having sex."
It was a different brand of BC pills, but it was again a new brand that was supposed to be the 'mildest' dosage on the market. Tried them for 2 months, and had the same results as 5 years before. She gave me 3 boxes of the stuff that I never used and eventually threw out.
so, two years later I developed a cyst around my ovaries that would result in me having to get one of my ovaries removed. The 3 doctors I consulted, none could give me a definite answer as to why I developed the thing.
I know, now, why my mom hated doctors, clinics and hospitals. You can't trust those motherfuckers. I really regret taking those pills they gave me at the Planned Parenthood clinic for treating Syphillis. I didn't have syphillis, I was still a virgin. Sure, I may have sat on a toilet seat here and there, but STD viruses die within secs once on a surface like that. She knew I was a student at the local University, lived in a dorm because I used my dorm address, and that there was a lot of fucking going on. I went to a division one school, and lived in a dorm where they housed many of the athletes - she probably figured that, too. I was dooped.

I wanted to tell you about how I think the medical industry is on some BS.
So, when I was getting consultation on my needed surgery, the first physician wanted to cut me horizontally across my torso to get which would have left me with a 6 + inch long scar across my belly, and out of work for 6 months. And I keloid, wtf? She was an East Indian doctor.
The doctor that I actually performed the less invasive surgical procedure, that had me back to work after 4 days, took it upon herself to remove the extra (not too much) fat I had in my thighs. It wasn't much, I was still a small girl with the fat. She suggested that it was 'bad' fat and could contribute to future malignant growths.
At the time, I was really thankful to her for not ripping my body to shreds in order to take out that tumor. However, I look at how fat forms on my thighs now, and she messed up the natural contour of my thighs.
She didn't have to do that, she could have easily suggested a body cleansing regimen and exercise. I'm not deformed, but I think the 'liposuction', she wasn't supposed to do - that's a whole nother procedure . It has made it harder for me to tone my thighs back up.
I mean, I had fat on my thighs before, more than this, but I never had saddle bags.

the medical industry is on some BS and some of these doctors don't need to be in the profession. They have God complexes, which is dangerous.

Hi Friend: When i read your post about Eugenics,it reminded me of a PBS documentary about Puerto Rican history.The US sterilized almost all of their women from the 50's thru the early 70's and in most cases didn't tell them.If you went to the hospital for routine surgery/accident and female,chances are you will be sterilized.A few PR ladies i know of a certain age are childless and i wonder if it was their choice.I was shocked that the US used PR to test birth control/nuclear weapons on the people.Rosy Perez made mention of US mistreatment of her peeps in her documentary...i watched it....interesting to say the least...very honest!

I had (2) 5 month miscarriages before I finally had my daughter. During my 2nd miscarriage while at the hospital the white female Dr said that I "needed" to have a hysterectomy. *BLANK STARE*. I looked at my friend who drove me to the hospital and said call my mother NOW. After being transferred to my room I requested, no, demanded a new physician. There was NO WAY I would let her touch me again. I told everyone that I could in the hospital and out about what she said (to cover my ass). The other Dr's. just said she was "like that" with everyone and she is no harm just "extreme". YEAH WHATEVER.

Shortness...I don't mean to pry and if you're not comfortable answering, I appreciate that. I just wanted to know why you had two 5 month miscarriages. I ask that now because I'm 5 months pregnant and was diagnosed with incompetent cervix so last week I was given surgery to stitch my cervix (cerclage). My dr seems very confident that this will be ok. I'm 23 and a half weeks pregnant now. I just wanted to know if you had a similar experience or if you can share what happened with your pregnancies to lose them and how was that managed with the 3rd successful one. I really appreciate any input as I am so worried and lost in all this. Thanks.

I too was diagnosed with an incompetent cervix after having two premature babies(Thank God they survived and are healthy.) I am also a Labor and Delivery nurse. I'm glad that they diagnosed you and applied the cerclage. I pray that you are taking it easy and is on bedrest right now until everything is proved to be okay. Cerclages prove to be very successful when they are placed in time. Let me know if you have any questions..I will try to answer them....

An old traveling evangelist/gospel singer that is retired in a nursing home due to a stroke told me years ago Jakes was getting down like that and I argued with her about it not believing it for a minute and she said someday you might find out the truth. And being “poor” back then was hardly a piece of cake for Black women as it is today. . . . One of my favorite scenes from a movie is from Moving with Richard Pryor and Beverly Todd. Stacey Dash was their daughter and they had a swear jar for the family. When they told her she had to move to Boise, Idaho, the girl grabbed a dollar, dropped it in the jar and commenced to cutting loose on her parents. I like her show, I remember when that guy shot and killed the gay guy who brought him on the show talking about he had a crush on him. If in fact she were truly molested and/or raped by her father that may account for her promiscuous and needy (chasing after Dennis Edwards) and paying for men / pimped out ways. Ive always thought something wasn't right with her aura despite her being one helluva singer. Just a crying shame what she and her children endured at the hands of those who were supposed to care about her and guide her in the right direction. I agree. At times it's evident there (may) be something wrong with Aretha. But it's best to place oneself in other's shoes (not sure about MJ's). But, for Aretha, imagine being hit by a car during your life. That's a tragic experience. . . Now, imagine getting hit constantly again and again by other cars in your life. . . From the outside, we cannot fathom the mental anguish she endured, the "jacked up" outlook on life she experienced, nor the desperation to seek some form of love to embrace her. . . What I'm getting at is: people should be considerate enough to point the finger in the appropriate direction (to the culprits) and less at her (the victim). Singing was her outlet (((along with other vices))). Nevertheless, this great woman was gracious enough throughout her career to "at least" share it with the world.

Thanks SheKnows. My aunt and family nicknamed me that due my height (6'1) and I like to dress glamarous and sexy (within reason since I am full-figured). It just stuck as a nickname and I've used it for stage purposes (singing / plus-size modeling / Ricki Lake) back in the day. For the most part I just go by Glama.

I've also been labeled as weird because I am a people watcher by nature and love to observe folks, whether it's through face to face interaction, reading books, articles, watching tv or movies. I'm just a curious creature and I'm proud of it! I wish most people would realize that life is a learning experience and you have to find new ways to broaden your horizons every day. I am close to people form all walks of life and each has enriched my life in some way. As far as I'm concerned, being "normal" and fitting in is boring and does nothing to improve me as a person. I guess that's why I embrace my weirdness.

Hi all! I have been lurking for weeks & have posted a few times, but you guys are going to get me hooked. I am at work, but it has been slow so this fills my day nicely. I am in shock from the wealth of knowledge you guys have. I can't believe this is Aretha. I love her & this just makes me sick & to hear about other gospel "legends" whoo it is a shame. Why is it that some woman are set to go afte the woman? Now I can almost understand if the woman was really on purpose disrespecting the gf or wife. Mya is a train wreck. She has bought men cars and SUV's to be with her and she's a pretty girl but her rep is so so bad. I think her longest relationship has been two weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if she's been to the clinic a few times. She gets around. Hey PR Family, I believe this is Aretha Franklin , Glynn Turman and I do remember reading somewhere that Dennis Edwards was involved with her sister Erma. Although I give her much respect, because she is a natural talent, everytime I see her I wish someone would tell her to make better fashion choices. If she was molested as a young girls that is very sad, and could explain alot that has been said about her. Speak on it. When we have storms here in Florida my immediate family will NOT ride it out together. But will get together with the extended fam or friends. but all of us (mind you immediate is small number) together is bound to end up murder/suicide cases for sure. Lord knows I love them, I DO! but I'll kill'em dead if I had to be confined with them over 24hrs. God bless and grant patience to all those people who've taken in family, friends, and neighbors. Poundstone I remember. And it was dismissed as the kid(s) were lying. Apparently it was too late because that seed was planted in many minds and she remained suspect that includes myself. I didn't like the way they treated Mia Farrow they did paint her she as being the bitter ex but DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! of course she's bitter any woman who finds out her man has been messing around with a close relative or friend has a right to be bitter,hurt and PISSED she's only human. HiDoll, It seems like Aretha's abuse issues probably prevented her from acting in the best interest of her child, because no one called the authorities/social services on her father, the world renown minister from Detroit. Because I am quite sure numerous of people knew what was happening behind those close doors of their home but those "star struck" folks sat back in their pews and did absolutely nothing. Heck, her momma had to know something sick was happening between the husband and "child". So, she probably didn't know how to deal with the abuse, or maybe she did accost the pervert but we("the public") don't know anything about it.

Back in the day when fathers were messing with there daughters and other young girls I guess it wasn't to be talked about too much. Because they knew it was wrong and they didn't know how to go about taking care of the matter as we know how today.
If Aretha's father did mess with her he no doubt used the I'm the father,head of the house and the fact that he was a man of the cloth that meant he has a right. Her being young and not knowing any better she might have though it was right and normal. It's easy to brain wash a innocent child into believing anything.
That mama might have tried to do something and he over powered her with him being the head of the family and a preacher who's going to take the mother side over him? which might have something to do with her leaving. That's why I asked if anyone remember about two women who's father was a preacher and he didn't allow them to go anywhere but to church and school. He didn't allow them to have friends but these two girls ended up pregnant and someone from church or a teacher notice something wasn't right. I think when they started to show when they were pregnant he took them out of school and when they didn't show up a church someone got nosy(thank goodness)and they did some poking around because if he only let these girls go to church and school have no boyfriends how else could they get pregnant? and low and behold it was that daddy who was having sex with his daughters got them both pregnant. These girls was on Oprah this was in the 80's or maybe early 90's. He was on the phone telling his side of the lie and said the reason the mother didn't do anything was because she like sleeping with women more then he did and that he and his wife would have threesomes with other women. It was a trip, but the bottom line was he was the one who got his two daughters pregnant and they weren't allow to do anything do go to church and school.It made me mad because in his mind he didn't do anything wrong because he's the father and it's ok for the father to have sex with is daughters. When we first moved here to chicago. There was a really pretty lady my mother and aunt was friends with and she used to tell them how when she was young her father used to make her have sex with a white friend of his. She said he'd come into her room when she was sleep lay in bed with her and would tell her not to be afraid he wasn't going to hurt her because she was pretty and he like pretty girls. She said her dad was in the other room while this grown man was making her have sex with him. She said when she told her father he told her if you tell anybody Mr.? is not going to buy you a dresser for your room. She said she didn't know until later that her dad worked for this man. And he when he wasn't able to pay her father he'd let him have sex with her.
She was very pretty too but not all there.
My mother and aunt used to say that felt sorry for this woman because she was so pretty and nice but they could tell at times she wasn't altogether.
